How can I remove mold from my basement?
The mold is black and covers large areas of cement walls. The corners are almost pure black. We have presented an office chair, we were not using the basement for about a month ago when we first moved in, the fabric seat and back of the chair has since grown a greenish, fuzzy-looking mold. I do not want to save something somewhere in the basement until I can figure out a way to either get rid of the mold, or make sure it does not grow at all! I do not want to waste an entire basement worth of storage space. The space has good ventilation and it is a house we rent. Any advice?
Mold loves moist air in dark surroundings. Dehumidfy air. Bring in some UV light. It sounds like a potentially serious situation. You may wish to ensure that the shape that you are not life-threatening kind. There have mold testing available at some Home Depot stores. Configuring the dehumidifier to drain the hose into a floor drain or sump pump hole. In this way, can run continuously. (Or at least not stopping, waiting for someone to empty the bucket.) Mold can spread to attics and walls. Better to get this problem solved. Good luck.
